General Information
Below you will find general information about day-to-day procedures.
ATTENDANCE AND TRANSPORTATION
Children may begin arriving at 8:45 am each morning, but school does not start until 9:15 am. Children who arrive after 9:15 am will need to sign in at the office and receive a tardy slip. Please write me a note, send a Talking Points or email, or call the office if your child is absent. If you need to make transportation changes, you must send in a note or call the front office. If you email transportation changes, please do so prior to school starting for the day as I may not be able to check it during the day. If your child has an unavoidable appointment and needs checked out early, be sure to check him/her out of the office by 3:15 pm so that it does not interfere with our carpool traffic. Students must be picked up in carpool if they are not picked up prior to 3:15 pm.
VOLUNTEERS
Please remember that all volunteers must be cleared EVERY YEAR by Wake County. The front office can give you more information on completing the yearly background check. In order to participate in classroom activities and chaperone on field trips, this check must be complete. Times must be arranged prior to simply coming into the classroom.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
At Carpenter, we strive to be like C.A.R.Y. As part of our Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) program, children are taught behavioral expectations for every area of school during the first week of school. Even for those who have previously been at Carpenter, we will review the expectations for the classroom, hallway, restrooms, cafeteria, etc. The acronym C.A.R.Y. helps students to remember these expectations every day.
TESTING AND PROCTORING
Third grade is the year for testing! We have Beginning of Grade (BOG), End of Grade (EOG), CogAT, and several other tests throughout the year. For many of these tests, we will need proctors. If you are interested in proctoring at any point this year, please let me know so we can get you more information.
GRADING
The Wake County Grading scale for elementary students is below. 80% or higher constitutes mastery.
